Until it closes at the end of August, everything in the gallery is being offered for sale at significantly reduced prices, including stained glass windows, lamps, sun catchers, jewelry, and original watercolors and oil paintings by Elaine Lebine and Dave Pickett.
“I will continue to design artwork for artistic competitions and for display in other galleries,” Kristo said. Kristo is looking forward to having more time to express her artistic talent on her own creations, rather than custom work, and to enter her creations in art shows and contests. A few examples of these include Brother Dan’s Food Pantry, the United Way and the Women’s Resource Center of Northern Michigan. Throughout her career, Kristo has donated many pieces to nonprofit organizations that help her community. The sailboat she designed and donated to the American Red Cross’s fundraising campaign in 2007 raised more than $13,000 in the organization’s auction.

Her extravagant windows and lamps, including agate designs, grace many homes, businesses, churches, and buildings throughout the area, state and country. Her stained glass artwork is in countless homes throughout Northern Michigan, including the first homes ever built in both Birchwood and Bay Harbor. Locally, Kristo designed and built the windows at the Bay View Association’s Crouse Memorial Chapel, as well as the windows in the West Minister Room at the First Presbyterian Church in Petoskey and at the nearby First Church of Christ, Scientist.
She created and installed all the new windows at the United Methodist Church in Pickford, Michigan and the Catholic Church in Brimley, Michigan.

Kristo and her crew also undertook major stained glass restorations such as the alter windows at Christ Church in Detroit, a project featured on the front page of the Detroit Free Press. Kristo won first place in an international competition by the Stained Glass Association of America in 1996 for an agate and glass creation called “Spring.” She also provided restoration services for the well-known “Angel of Praise” Tiffany window at the Episcopal Church on Grosse Isle, Michigan a circa-1904 window by David and Helen Maitland Armstrong on Jekyll Island, Georgia and a domed ceiling at Cypress Lawn Cemetery near San Francisco, California. Kristo worked for James for five years before purchasing the business, continuing the studio’s name and purpose: to create custom-designed stained glass windows and lamps and to restore large church and commercial windows.ĭuring those 45 years, Kristo has become certified as a Restoration Specialist by the Stained Glass Association of America won numerous awards, including Best in Show from the Crooked Tree Arts Center in Petoskey and performed restoration work on original Tiffany windows throughout the country. Kristo has owned the business since 1980, when she bought it from the original owner, Frank James. “I’ll be continuing my craft of designing and creating one-of-a-kind pieces of stained glass artwork, but from the standpoint of an independent artist and not a retail production studio.”
