For the time being, I "fixed" the problem by resigning from the tech group–not because of hearing issues but because the group cannot consider several of the greatest problems we need to solve. Trying to glance at the speaker, then at the phone, increases my frustration and causes me to miss even more. For me, I lose a lot if I'm looking at my phone instead of looking at the person speaking, as I've come to rely pretty heavily on speech reading. Even in the city, the WiFi was only available in the reception area. in the big metro area (pre Covid) and was disappointed to learn that it only sort of worked in the reception area, not in the treatment room, which is why I had hoped to use it. Further, since I live in a very rural area, most meeting places here do not even have WiFi, or, if they do, it doesn't work for Live Transcribe. I tried Live Transcribe for technical meetings and found that it only increased my level of confusion between what I thought I had heard and seen and what Live Transcribe reported a bit afterwards. I don’t know if this Samsung has the most powerful mic of all the newer models but I am still amazed at the sound quality and will continue use to use this older version until the phone goes kaput. I have “attended” zoom meetings and placed my phone upright near my iPad and am able to capture almost every word that is spoken as long as the speaker Is using a microphone. It does not affect anything I do with this app. There was a concern from someone about sending data to advertisers.Īnother thing I don’t do is turn on Accessibility because of the floating microphone which just gets in the way. Goggle says it does not store any conversations on its servers. Remember how we used to unplug an appliance and plug it back in and then it worked again? For me, this is a fix and might be for someone else. This has happened several times when it never use to happen before. I have found that by simply turning wi fi off and then on again it seems to reset and then I am back online. Today, at the doctors office everything was fine in the check in and waiting room until I got inside the office. I have found in the last several months that this app does give the “App Off-line “ message even though I am signed into whatever network is available. The app has been developed with help from Gallaudet University, the world's only university designed around the needs of deaf and hard-of-hearing students. Live transcribe android#
Today, the Android Accessibility team announced Live Transcribe and Sound Amplifier, two new apps that look to materially improve quality of life for deaf and hard-of-hearing users. In addition to that, Android Pie brought with it an array of new accessibility features, letting motor-impaired users easily jump to nine common interactions on their phones.

Google's focus on making Android more accessible has been evident - it opened last year's I/O keynote with morse code input on Gboard.
Now Google's working to enhance the app's feature set by giving it the ability to recognize and describe sound events. Live Transcribe is a useful tool for getting a written record of speech, but the spoken word only represents a portion of the sounds around us.
